Horses are among the oldest subjects in art, from the cave walls of Lascaux to the racehorse portraits of the eighteenth century. This collection paints them in six moods, each touched with gold. A white stallion gallops straight out of a dark ground in a burst of gold dust, a black horse turns its head beneath a long pale mane, an Arabian is drawn entirely in fine gold lines on navy, a herd runs through the glow of a low sun, two grey horses bend over a small white foal and a horse rears up against the black, lit in bronze.
