ALL WORKS · BY SUBJECT · GOLDEN RATIO

Golden ratio art: the 1.618 proportion, drawn rather than hidden.

Most pictures that claim the golden ratio hide it. These show it — the squares, the arcs, the ruled lines, the compass work — and then build the image on top. Eighteen works where the proportion is the subject, from a gold ledger on black to a Renaissance profile on parchment.

The golden ratio is a single number, 1.618, and a single property: a rectangle in that proportion can have a square cut from one end and leave behind a smaller rectangle of exactly the same shape. Draw a quarter-circle through each of those squares and you have the golden spiral. Every work on this page begins from that construction. The Fibonacci squares are drawn first, the spiral is fitted through their corners, and the picture — a shell, a flame, a face, a seed head — is built on the scaffold rather than placed in front of it.

The most literal are the ledgers and blueprints. The Sovereign Ledger leaves every construction line on the page, gold on a ruled dark ground; The Chronos Equation annotates the shell like a measuring instrument; The Celestial Blueprint fills the chambers with clockwork on navy. The Da Vinci group — The Codex Nautilus, The Vitruvian Muse, The Tidal Chart — does the same in sepia and parchment, the compass work still drawn across the subject as Leonardo would have left it. The Golden Aperture and Depth and Gold Resonance let the geometry recede and keep only the curve.

Golden ratio art is chosen for the rooms where people think: studies, consulting rooms, architects’ and engineers’ offices, libraries, the wall behind a desk. The dark works read across a room; the parchment works want to be read up close. Every piece is delivered as a full-resolution file around 9,000 pixels on the long edge, as a giclée print, or under a single venue licence — and every one of them can be measured with a ruler to confirm the proportion is really there.

Priced in the sequence the work is built on.

Thirty-four and three hundred and seventy-seven. Two numbers from the sequence the work is built on — not rounded to look appealing.

Questions

What is golden ratio art?

Art composed on the proportion 1.618 — the golden ratio — so that the parts of the picture relate to each other the way the whole relates to its largest part. In practice it means the composition is built from Fibonacci squares and the golden spiral, with the resting point of the image at the golden section of the frame. The works here leave that construction visible.

How can I tell the ratio is really in the picture?

Measure it. In the ledger and blueprint works the squares and arcs are drawn on the page; in the others, the spiral tightens toward a centre without reaching it, and the main subject sits about 38 percent in from one edge — the golden section of the width. The construction is described on each product page.

Which golden ratio print suits an office or study?

The Sovereign Ledger, The Chronos Equation and The Celestial Blueprint are the usual choices — dark grounds, gold line, precise enough to sit beside drawings and screens. For a pale wall or a consulting room, the Da Vinci works on parchment are quieter and reward a closer look.

What do I receive when I buy?

A full-resolution image file, around 9,000 pixels on the long edge, delivered instantly after purchase for printing at any size on any surface. Giclée prints are made to order by the print partner, and a commercial licence at €377 covers a venue.
