How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

A loose spray of ginkgo leaves rises from thin stems gathered at the bottom centre. The leaves look like delicate folded paper, each fan slightly curled at the rim. In the upper half they glow in warm apricot and pale gold, lit as if by a low morning sun from the upper left. Lower down the colour cools into soft sage and blue-green, so the picture moves from warm to cool from top to bottom. Every leaf casts a soft, diffused shadow onto the pale beige wall, adding depth without darkness. A diagonal band of light crosses the background behind the upper leaves, strengthening the impression of an early sunbeam in a quiet room.

Light and shadow have a special place in Japanese design. Paper screens, shoji, were made to soften daylight into an even glow, and traditional rooms were arranged so that the play of light across a wall changed through the day. This picture captures that kind of moment: nothing happens except light falling on leaves. The ginkgo, with its fan shape and its famous golden autumn, is an ideal subject. Painted as if made of paper, it also echoes the craft of paper art, where leaves and flowers are cut and folded by hand. The warm-to-cool gradient makes it one of the most luminous works in the collection.

Its morning mood makes it a natural choice for a kitchen, a breakfast nook or an east-facing bedroom. Cream, peach, warm white and soft grey walls pick up the apricot tones beautifully. A light oak or champagne-gold frame suits it; white frames make it fresher still. Hang it where daylight reaches it. For a ginkgo trio, add The Golden Ginkgo Spiral and The Gilded Ginkgo Bouquet. The file is detailed enough for a sharp print about 91 cm long at 300 dpi.
