Ginkgo in Gold and Sage — Samsung Frame TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Thin golden stems rise from the bottom edge and loop upward across a warm, finely textured paper, crossing each other once or twice before they reach the top. On them sit a dozen ginkgo leaves of very different moods. Some are deep sage green with dark veins, some are a pale washed green, and several are covered in burnished gold leaf that crinkles at the edges. Lower left, one leaf turns a soft copper brown, a hint of late autumn. The leaves overlap slightly in the middle of the picture and open out towards the top, where a single pale leaf drifts free. The composition is busy enough to feel alive yet still leaves calm margins all around.

Japanese painters have laid real gold leaf on screens and fans for centuries. The technique, kinpaku, uses sheets hammered so thin that light passes through them, and on folding screens of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries whole skies were made of it. Against that gold, plants were painted in strong, simple shapes: pines, grasses, blossoms and ginkgo. This picture borrows the idea on a quieter scale. Gold appears only on some leaves, so it reads as light rather than decoration, and sage green carries the rest. That balance of a little shine and a lot of calm is what makes Japandi interiors feel warm instead of stark.

Hang it above a sofa or a desk, where its looping stems give a bare wall gentle movement. Warm white, mushroom, greige and soft olive walls bring out both the sage and the gold. A natural oak frame with a wide cream mat feels most Japandi; black thin frames sharpen it into something more graphic. It looks best in daylight or under a warm lamp. For a trio, add The Golden Ginkgo Spiral and The Gilded Ginkgo Bouquet. The digital file holds detail for prints up to roughly 91 cm tall at 300 dpi, so even a large frame stays sharp.
