This work is drawn for screens: the 4K TV pack holds 3840 × 2160 for the Samsung Frame and other 4K TVs, plus 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080 for older sets, monitors and digital frames. The picture fills the screen edge to edge, so no mat is needed. All about 4K TV art →

Emerald Night Spirals — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Dark green and black tiles form the ground of this mosaic, deep as a forest at night. Over it float spirals and discs in gold and cream, some large, some small, set close together. At the left a large fan of gold tiles opens out, a bright counterweight to the darker field on the right.

The fan is a motif with a long history in decoration. Folding fans reached Europe from East Asia, and Japanese art was a strong influence on the Vienna Secession, the movement Gustav Klimt helped to found in 1897. Later, in the 1920s and 1930s, fan and sunburst shapes became signatures of art deco design, and they still define much art deco wall art today. Here that motif sits beside Klimt-style spirals and discs, all rendered as mosaic.

Emerald walls, dark wood and brass fittings suit this mosaic wall art well, but it also brightens a plain white room. Hang it above a sofa, a sideboard or a bed, or let it run as art for a Samsung Frame TV or any 4K screen. For a warmer companion piece, pair it with The Golden River.
