4K TV ART IN GOLD

The Golden Spiral

Black and Gold Wall Art

A golden spiral shell is seen close up, its hammered, textured gold ridges coiling into darkness. Lit from the side, it stands out against a pure black ground.

Its dramatic contrast suits a study, a bedroom or a dark living room wall above a sofa or sideboard, and it looks striking on a 4K TV or Samsung Frame.

On a 4K TV or Samsung Frame

This work is drawn for screens: the 4K TV pack holds 3840 × 2160 for the Samsung Frame and other 4K TVs, plus 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080 for older sets, monitors and digital frames. The picture fills the screen edge to edge, so no mat is needed. All about 4K TV art →

The Golden Spiral — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

This is a close-up: a spiral shell in gold fills the picture, its ridges hammered and textured like worked metal. They coil inwards and disappear into darkness at the centre. The light comes from one side, catching the edge of each ridge, and around the shell there is nothing but pure black.

Many shells grow as a logarithmic spiral, a curve that widens by the same factor with every turn, so the shape stays the same as it grows. Jacob Bernoulli called it the spira mirabilis, the marvellous spiral, and asked for one on his tombstone. The golden spiral is one particular case, widening by the golden ratio every quarter turn. Real shells, the nautilus included, rarely match it exactly, but the resemblance has made golden spiral art a lasting theme.

Black and gold wall art like this needs little around it: a dark wall in charcoal or ink blue, or a crisp white one for maximum contrast. It suits a study, a bedroom or a living room above a sofa, and on a 4K TV or Samsung Frame the blacks stay deep. Pair it with The Tiled Golden Spiral for a study of the same curve in two materials.
