4K TV ART IN GOLD

The Tiled Golden Spiral

Golden Spiral Art

Small gold and black tiles wind into a spiral tunnel that draws the eye towards a bright centre. Set against black, it is a golden spiral seen in depth.

Its pull towards the centre suits a study, a hallway or a living room above a sofa or console, and on a 4K TV or Samsung Frame it reads almost like a window.

The Tiled Golden Spiral — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Hundreds of small tiles in gold and black form a spiral tunnel that winds inwards, turn after turn, towards a bright centre. The surrounding ground is black, so the spiral seems to open into the picture rather than lie on its surface. It is a golden spiral seen in depth, built from tesserae like a mosaic floor.

The golden spiral can be drawn with a compass and a ruler. Start with a golden rectangle, whose sides stand in the ratio of about 1 to 1.618, cut a square from it, and the rectangle left over has the same proportion. Repeat, draw a quarter circle in each square, and the arcs join into a spiral. The Fibonacci sequence gives a close approximation. Mosaicists since antiquity have set spirals and scrolls in tile, and this picture joins those two traditions.

Hang this golden spiral art where it can be seen straight on: above a sofa, a console or a desk. Dark walls deepen the tunnel effect, while white or stone walls make the gold sharper. On a 4K TV or Samsung Frame the tiles stay crisp right into the centre. Pair it with The Golden Spiral, the same curve shown as a hammered gold shell.
