Against the black ground the copper and gold stand out, so it suits a dark accent wall, a bedroom or a hallway, above a bed or a console, and looks striking on a Samsung Frame or 4K TV.

The Copper-Haired Muse — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

A woman glances back over her shoulder, her copper-red curls catching the light and her skin pale against the dark. Look closer and you see she is made entirely of mosaic tiles. Around her, gold coins and dark tiles are scattered across a black background, as if the picture were still being laid piece by piece.

Mosaic is one of the slowest ways to make an image: the Romans set floors with thousands of small cut stones called tesserae, and Byzantine artists added glass and gold to make walls shine. Klimt admired that patience and brilliance, and in his painting Danaë of 1907–08 he showed a red-haired woman with a shower of gold coins falling around her. The Copper-Haired Muse is an original picture, not a copy, that joins those two threads: a portrait in tiles and a scattering of gold.

The black ground makes this horizontal piece especially strong on a dark wall, in a bedroom or hallway painted charcoal, deep green or navy. It sits well above a bed, a console or a sideboard, and on a Samsung Frame or 4K TV the black blends into the screen's frame so the woman seems to float. For a second copper-haired figure in a cooler setting, pair it with The Teal Muse.
