This work is drawn for screens: the 4K TV pack holds 3840 × 2160 for the Samsung Frame and other 4K TVs, plus 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080 for older sets, monitors and digital frames. The picture fills the screen edge to edge, so no mat is needed. All about 4K TV art →

The Amber Veil — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Seen in profile, a woman turns her pale face to one side, calm and self-contained. Her hair is a dark cloud patterned with fine copper spirals, and around her shoulders lies a shawl of gold, amber and grey mosaic. Orange and gold discs float around her like warm lights, so the whole picture glows like a lamp-lit room in autumn.

The profile is one of the oldest ways to show a face. Rulers appeared in profile on ancient coins, and in fifteenth-century Italy painters such as Piero della Francesca used it for portraits that feel clear and timeless. Klimt, in turn, liked to wrap his women in robes and shawls that turned into pure ornament. The Amber Veil brings these ideas together in an original picture after Klimt: a quiet profile, a veil of mosaic and a field of glowing discs.

Amber, copper and grey are easy to live with alongside warm white, ochre, rust or soft grey walls, wooden floors and linen. The wide format fills the space above a sofa, a bed or a long sideboard, and on a Samsung Frame or 4K TV the warm colours make the screen feel like part of the furniture. For a warm pair in the same golden tones, hang it next to Tree of Life in Amber Gold.
