Fern Forest in Gold — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Fern Forest in Gold is a wide, dense composition of arching fern fronds that overlap across the whole width of the picture. Some fronds are a deep, cool green; others are gilded in pale gold, so the eye moves back and forth between shadow and shine. Everything sits on a dark forest-green background that gives the gold its depth.

Ferns were an obsession of Victorian Britain. In the mid-19th century the fern craze, known as pteridomania, sent collectors into woods and hedgerows, filled parlours with glass cases of living ferns, and put fronds on pottery, textiles and printed plates. This picture carries that fascination into the present, keeping the leafy repetition the Victorians loved and adding a quiet gleam of gold.

The print file is 7680 × 4320 px, about 65 cm wide at 300 dpi, made as horizontal wall art for a bedroom, bathroom or hallway, above a bed, bath or console, on white, charcoal or deep green walls. The separate 4K TV pack holds 3840 × 2160 for the Samsung Frame or any 4K art-mode TV, plus 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080. Pair it with The Golden Fern for a portrait-and-landscape duo.
