The Sky Whale — Samsung Frame TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

A giant whale made of soft golden light swims slowly through the clouds. From above, a shower of gold falls through the sky. Below, a seaside town sleeps, its windows lit warm. The picture is gentle and quietly magical, a scene that feels like a story told at bedtime.

Surrealism, which began in Paris in the 1920s, set out to paint the logic of dreams: ordinary things placed where they cannot be, shown with calm clarity. The Sky Whale belongs to that dream tradition, though its mood is closer to a fairy tale than to anything unsettling. A whale in the clouds swaps sea for sky, and the sleeping town below gives the scene its scale and its warmth. It is an original work, made to be read slowly, like a page from a picture book.

Children and adults both tend to enjoy it, which makes it a good choice for a bedroom, a nursery or a family living room. Soft blue, warm white and pale grey walls suit it, and the mood is peaceful and hopeful. As part of the set Surreal Dreams in Gold, it hangs well with The Door to the Stars and The Moon Fisher. The file prints sharply to roughly 76 cm on the long edge at 300 dpi.
