How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

A golden door stands in a sea so still it works as a mirror. Above it drift pink and blue clouds. The door is open just a little, enough to let a warm red glow spill out across the water. Nothing else interrupts the scene, so that small gap becomes the centre of everything.

A door standing alone in open space is an old idea in surreal painting. Taken out of its wall, an everyday object becomes a question: where does it lead, and who left it open? Painters of the 1920s and 1930s used such quiet impossibilities to suggest dreams rather than explain them. This scene keeps that gentle strangeness and adds gold and sunset light. It belongs to the set Golden Hour Dreams, three quiet surreal scenes between dusk and night.

Soft and mysterious, it feels like a dream you remember all day. It is lovely in a bedroom, a living room or above a console in the hall. Blush, dusty blue or warm white walls pick up the sky. Hang it with Catching the Moon and The Whale over the Lighthouse to complete the set of three. The file prints sharply to roughly 76 cm on the long edge at 300 dpi.
