How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

A tall golden door stands alone in a still sea at dusk. Outside it, the sky is all pink cloud and soft sunset. Inside the open frame there is something else entirely: a deep starry galaxy, as if the door led out of the evening and into space. Two worlds meet at a single threshold.

Doors and thresholds have carried meaning for a long time. The Romans gave them their own god, Janus, who looked both ways, and his name lives on in January, the month of beginnings. Surrealist painters later placed ordinary objects in impossible settings to open a view into dreams. This picture joins those threads in a calm way. It is part of the set Surreal Dreams in Gold: a door that opens onto the stars, a fisherman pulling the moon from the sky and a whale of light over a sleeping town.

Quiet and full of possibility, it is a picture about new beginnings. It sits beautifully in a bedroom, a hallway or a reading corner. Deep blue, soft pink or warm grey walls echo its two skies. Complete the trio with The Moon Fisher and The Sky Whale. The file prints sharply to roughly 76 cm on the long edge at 300 dpi.
