Long, slender leaves sweep diagonally across a soft sage-green sheet, and at the heart of the olive branches hangs a cluster of glossy black fruit, with two olives and one leaf picked out in gold leaf.

How large can I print it?
The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →
Which paper or surface?
Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.
Which licence do I need?
Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →
The diagonal does the work here. Branches enter from one corner and cross the sheet towards the other, which gives a quiet picture a sense of movement, like a bough leaning in from outside a window. Your eye follows the leaves along that line until it meets the dark cluster of olives in the middle, the deepest tone on the page. Next to them, the two gold olives and a single gilded leaf glint softly, small enough to discover rather than announce themselves. The engraving-like line work gives every leaf a fine, crisp edge and a hint of shading, and the silvery greens sit just a little lighter than the plain sage ground. From across the room it is a calm tone-on-tone image; nearer, the hatching and the glossy fruit invite a longer look.
For thousands of years the olive branch has stood for peace. In ancient Greece it was linked with Athena, and wreaths of wild olive were the prize for victors at the Olympic Games; in the Book of Genesis, the dove returns to Noah's ark carrying a freshly plucked olive leaf as a sign that the flood is receding. The tree itself is famously long-lived, and olive groves around the Mediterranean include trees many centuries old. Its leaves are grey-green above and silvery beneath. The fruit ripens slowly from green through violet to black, so the dark olives shown here are fully ripe.
Sage and olive walls make it melt into the room, while warm white, plaster pink or terracotta give the green more presence. A natural oak or rustic wood frame suits the Mediterranean feel; antique gold picks up the gilded fruit. Sunlit kitchens and dining rooms are ideal, as soft daylight brings out the warm tones of the gold. Combine it with The Garden Sage for a herb-garden pairing, or let The Amethyst Iris add a contrasting splash of violet nearby. Printed from the 7168 × 10752 px file, it stays sharp to about 60 × 90 cm, a good size above a long dining table. Your download includes a Frame TV version with a gallery mat.
