On a 4K TV or Samsung Frame

This work is drawn for screens: the 4K TV pack holds 3840 × 2160 for the Samsung Frame and other 4K TVs, plus 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080 for older sets, monitors and digital frames. The picture fills the screen edge to edge, so no mat is needed. All about 4K TV art →

The Copper Crown — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Her eyes are closed and her face is turned in profile, calm and inward. Most of the picture belongs to her hair: a great copper-red mass made of mosaic spirals and gold dots, rising like a crown. Around her the background is black, sprinkled with gold, so the copper seems to glow from within.

Gustav Klimt painted women again and again during his golden period in Vienna, often with eyes closed, absorbed in sleep or dream, and he treated hair as a field of pattern rather than a mass of strands. His use of gold leaf and spiral ornament owed much to the Byzantine mosaics he admired in Ravenna. This Klimt woman is an original picture in that spirit, translating his love of ornament into tile-like spirals and dots.

Black and gold wall art like this suits deep walls in charcoal, oxblood or forest green, but it also stands out against warm white. Hang it in a bedroom, a reading corner or above a sofa, or set it as frame TV art on a Samsung Frame or any 4K TV. For a pair of copper-haired portraits, hang it beside The Teal Muse.
