Vintage Botanical Landscape Art

Peonies in pink, crimson and cream spill across the full width of this wide panorama, their buds and dark-green leaves drawn like an antique botanical engraving. Fine gold accents catch the light against warm parchment.

How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Peony Garden in Gold is a wide bank of peonies that fills the picture from edge to edge. Blooms in pink, crimson and cream sit among round buds and dark-green leaves, all drawn in the fine lines of an antique botanical engraving. Touches of gold pick out the details, and the whole scene rests on warm, aged parchment.

The style looks back to the hand-coloured engravings of the 18th and 19th centuries, when botanical plates were printed in black line and then coloured by hand, one sheet at a time. Those plates were made to record plants accurately, yet many came to be treasured as decoration. This picture borrows their patient line work and soft colour, but opens the single specimen out into a whole border of flowers.

The print file is 7680 × 4320 px, about 65 cm wide at 300 dpi, ideal as horizontal wall art above a sofa, bed or sideboard on cream, blush or sage walls. A separate 4K TV pack brings 3840 × 2160 for the Samsung Frame or any 4K art-mode TV, plus 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080. For a matching pair, hang it beside The Golden Peony, its portrait companion.
