This work is drawn for screens: the 4K TV pack holds 3840 × 2160 for the Samsung Frame and other 4K TVs, plus 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080 for older sets, monitors and digital frames. The picture fills the screen edge to edge, so no mat is needed. All about 4K TV art →

Turquoise Spirals in Gold — 4K TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Bright and full of energy, this picture is built from small turquoise and aqua tiles, laid like a swimming-pool mosaic, with patches of deep blue for depth. Across them run bold gold spirals and rings, some tight, some opening wide, so the eye keeps moving from one coil to the next.

The spiral is one of the oldest ornaments there is. It appears on Bronze Age pottery and jewellery, on Celtic metalwork and on the carved stones at Newgrange in Ireland. Klimt gave it a new life in Vienna: in the Stoclet Frieze, made for a dining room in Brussels between about 1905 and 1911, the branches of a tree of life curl into endless golden spirals. Turquoise Spirals in Gold keeps that idea of ornament as movement and sets it on a cool, glittering mosaic of blue.

Gold and blue is a fresh pairing for a kitchen, a bathroom wall, a hallway or a bright living room, and it looks good against white, pale grey or sandy walls. As a horizontal piece it fits above a sofa, a bench or a console table, and on a Samsung Frame or any 4K TV it adds colour without feeling heavy. For a darker, evening version of the same idea, pair it with Midnight Mosaic Spirals.
