How large can I print it?

The print file is 7,680 × 4,320 px. That prints crisply to about 65 × 37 cm at gallery quality, and to about 130 × 73 cm at the distance you look at a picture over a sofa. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Tree of Life at Midnight shows a wide, spreading tree whose thousands of fine golden branches seem to glow against a deep midnight-navy sky. Tiny gold stars are scattered through the darkness around it, so the whole picture feels like a tree lit up at night, delicate up close and luminous from across the room.

The idea of one great tree that holds the world together is very old. In Norse mythology it is Yggdrasil, an immense ash whose branches were said to stretch out over the heavens and whose roots reached into different worlds. Picturing such a tree against the night sky, crowned with stars, follows that ancient image of a tree that links the earth with everything above it.

As landscape wall art it suits the space above a bed, sofa or sideboard, and it sits beautifully on navy, charcoal, warm grey or crisp white walls. The download contains a 7680 × 4320 px print file and a separate 4K TV pack for Samsung Frame or any 4K art-mode TV, where the dark ground looks especially rich in the evening. Pair it with the portrait Tree of Life Under the Stars.
