How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

On a soft yellow ground, a tall rectangle of raised gold leaf stands on the left. On the right sits a large deep blue circle. Between them, red and black lines, curves and small shapes move back and forth. Warm meets cool, and straight meets round, in a lively and joyful balance.

Wassily Kandinsky painted Yellow-Red-Blue in 1925, during his years teaching at the Bauhaus; the original hangs in the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Kandinsky believed colours and forms had inner qualities, almost like sounds. At the Bauhaus he linked yellow with the triangle, red with the square and blue with the circle. This version is a reimagining in gold, not a copy. The raised gold leaf adds texture to the left side, while the composition keeps his tension between the two halves.

It works well in a living room, a home office or a child's room that loves colour. White, cream or pale grey walls let the blue and red stand out, and oak furniture warms it. It belongs to the set Kandinsky in Gold; hang it with Several Circles in Gold and Composition VIII in Gold to trace his Bauhaus years. The file prints sharply to roughly 76 cm on the long edge at 300 dpi.
