How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Golden fireworks burst over a long wooden bridge. Beneath it the river carries small boats with paper lanterns, all under a midnight blue sky. The scene sparkles without being loud: bright gold above, dark water below, and the bridge stretching between them.

Utagawa Hiroshige made Fireworks at Ryōgoku in 1858 for his series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. Ryōgoku Bridge crossed the Sumida River in what is now Tokyo, and summer fireworks there marked the opening of the river season, drawing crowds onto the banks and into pleasure boats. Hiroshige’s print shows a single burst falling over the dark water. This work is a reimagining in gold, not a copy, turning his sparks and lanterns into gold leaf against midnight blue.

A summer night in Edo, full of celebration, it suits a living room, a dining room or anywhere you like to gather in the evening. Dark blue, charcoal or warm white walls work well, and soft lamplight brings out the gold. Hang it with Golden Rain on the Bridge and Golden Koi for the Edo Nights in Gold set. The file prints sharply to roughly 76 cm on the long edge at 300 dpi.
