The Sage Strawberry Garden — Samsung Frame TV art, 3840 × 2160
How large can I print it?

The file is around 9,000 px on the long edge. That prints crisply to about 75 cm on the long edge at gallery quality, and to 130–170 cm at the distance you look at a picture over furniture. Sizes, paper and framing, in detail →

Which paper or surface?

Gold on dark grounds wants a matte or satin fine-art paper (200–310 gsm), or aluminium for humid rooms; glossy photo paper turns the black into a mirror. The pale works also take satin and baryta papers.

Which licence do I need?

Personal (€9.99) covers your own home and gifts. Any business or space open to the public — a spa, clinic, hotel, office, restaurant — needs the commercial licence (€99.99, one venue, no renewal). The venue guide →

About this work

Thrushes perch among strawberries and pale peonies on a light sage and cream ground. Fine touches of gold pick out details here and there without weighing the picture down. It is the lightest of the three Morris works in its set, airy and soft, with plenty of pale ground between the birds and flowers.

The source is Strawberry Thief, a pattern William Morris designed in 1883. It was inspired by the thrushes that stole fruit from the kitchen garden at Kelmscott Manor, his country house in Oxfordshire. Morris printed it at his Merton Abbey works using indigo discharge, a slow and demanding process, and it became one of his most popular textiles. The original is deep blue. The Sage Strawberry Garden is a reimagining in gold, not a copy, and it moves the familiar thrushes into a pale, pastel key.

It is airy enough for a bedroom, a bathroom or a nursery. Cream, sage, pale blush and soft white walls all suit it, and the mood is gentle and fresh, like a summer morning. As part of the set The Strawberry Thief, it hangs well with The Golden Strawberry Thief and Thrushes and Peonies. The file prints sharply to roughly 76 cm on the long edge at 300 dpi.
